Who is it for?
Mechanical engineers often started off as tinkerers, loving to pull things apart and find out how they work. If that sounds like you, this could be your ideal career. There are no pre-requisites for this course, making it perfect if you're looking for a new start. You may, of course, be already working in an area related to mechanical engineering, in which case this is the best way to formalise your skills and experience with a qualification.
Where can it lead?
This course offers a basic knowledge of the subject, and you may choose to continue on to further training. Once trained, however, you'll find your employment prospects could improve considerably. Mechanical engineers are increasingly in demand, and you could find yourself immersed in some fascinating projects as part of an engineering team, or as a private contractor. From maritime to automotive - in engineering, the possibilities are endless.
Salary?
Your salary will vary depending on your training and experience - as a general rule, mechanical engineers earn more than technicians. As a trainee electronics engineering technician, you could expect to earn between, £18,000 and £22,000 a year. For an experienced mechanical engineer, the average is between £26,000 and £37,000, with chartered engineers able to increase that to well over £40,000.
