BTEC Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Electrical Principles with Refrigeration, Heating and Air Conditioning

Whether it's keeping office workers comfortable or making sure food stays fresh, climate control is vital to our way of life. This nationally recognised qualification will equip you to install and maintain refrigeration, heating ventilation and air conditioning (RHVAC) systems, and set you up for a career with real longevity. Similar in content to the Advanced Diploma in Refrigeration, Heating and Air Conditioning, this course adds a study of the general principles involved in electricity, giving you a qualification with added depth. You'll learn about power sources, units of measurement, production methods and more, as well as the nuts and bolts of RHVAC installation. You'll gain the skills needed to maintain these systems and diagnose faults. Health and safety issues will also be examined - a mandatory when dealing with electrical systems.

Heating

  • Explore clients’ differing requirements, and learn how to identify locations with special heating requirements.
  • Examine local and central systems.
  • Study comfort indices, internal and external design temperatures, infiltration rates and the effects of building exposure.
  • Consider the relevant regulations, codes of practice and standards.

Ventilation and Air Conditioning

  • Learn how to design air conveyance systems and single-zone air conditioning systems.
  • Explore commissioning, operational and maintenance requirements.

Refrigeration Technology

  • Explore the design principles for the selection and balancing of equipment.
  • Learn how to install refrigeration and air conditioning plants.
  • Examine the codes of practice and relevant legislation.

Electrical Principles

Explore the various components used in electronic circuits and learn their characteristics. Examine the differences between analogue and digital signals, and consider how these differences relate to control principles. Learn how both transformers and rotating machines are constructed, and discover their operational characteristics. Explore circuit theorems, as well as single-phase and three-phase circuits.
