CACHE Certificate in Children's Care, Learning & Development

Who is it for?

If you have a genuine affinity with children and enjoy working with them, you'll find it easier to overcome the many challenges they present. Although you'll gain the most from the course if you're currently working in a childcare or learning environment (even in a voluntary capacity), work experience is not strictly necessary.

Where can it lead?

The area of child development presents an enormous range of career opportunities. While this course will equip you for a non-supervised role as a childcare assistant, further study can take you into more specialised roles, such as teaching, child nursing or therapy. With further training and experience, you may even choose to operate your own childcare business.

Salary?

Generally, a childcare assistant can expect a salary of between £12,000 and £16,000. With more experience, qualifications and responsibilities, this can rise to between £18,000 and £20,000.

While there are no pre-requisites for this course, you do need to be aged 16 or over to apply.

What will I study?

Principles and Values Underpinning the Care, Learning and Development Sector

• Explore the values and principles of the sector and learn how these are interpreted throughout all work with babies, children and young people.

Supporting the Provision of Safe and Effective Childcare Environments

• Learn how to care for children’s health and safety, as well as their physical needs. Discover how to act in the event of an accident or an emergency, or when a child is ill. Explore procedures for safeguarding and protecting children. Gain the skills to support the provision of effective and high quality childcare environments.

Supporting Children and Young Person Development

• Explore the pattern of development of babies, children and young people, and learn how to support them at different stages of development. Discover how to contribute to the planning of activities that meet their developmental needs. Examine the key issues in working with other professionals and agencies, and consider how to refer any concerns.

Supporting Children’s Play and Learning

• Consider the importance of play for learning and development, and learn how to effectively contribute to the play environment. Explore ways of supporting children’s learning within early education.

Assessment

You will complete four assessments. We will provide you with a sample multiple choice question paper, helping you to prepare for Assessment 2.

• Assessment 1: an assignment set by CACHE and marked by your tutor
• Assessment 2: 25 multiple choice questions set and marked by CACHE and which must be completed at a CACHE accredited testing centre. The assessment will be completed on a computer.
• Assessment 3: an assignment set by CACHE and marked by your tutor
• Assessment 4: an assignment set by CACHE and marked by your tutor

Technical requirements/Fees

For Assessment 2 you will be required to pay an assessment fee. Note that assessment centres are located in mainland UK only.
