Exploring Social Care in Theory & Practice

University of East LondonTake a step into higher education with this single module taken from the BA (Hons) Social Care degree course. You'll earn an Associate Certificate qualification from the University of East London, and 20 university credits that will count towards a higher award if you choose to continue your studies.

This module deals with the diversity of social care work, and looks at both established practices and theoretical approaches. You'll look at the variety of environments in which care is carried out, such as family, the medical profession schools, community institutions or individual levels, and the role of the carers and professionals involved. Using the works of key thinkers, such as Freud and Bowlby, you'll learn to apply theory to social care practice, and overcome the challenges posed by working in partnership, such as support and communication, and working across boundaries.

  • Developing the ability to bring theory and practice together
  • Exploring the work of Freud and Bowlby and cognitive and behavioural approaches
