- day-to-day server operating system, file structure, and directory services management
- software distribution and updates handling
- server monitoring
- providing support for tier-2 troubleshooting
- providing support for engineering and change-management projects
- creating builds and configuring the server
- auditing policy implementation
- performing scheduled vulnerability-assessment scans
- monitoring logs for firewalls and intrusion-detection systems
